I like Whiteheart.

When I got to morning meeting Saturday and pulled the new sign out of the van, it was a rare treat to see the looks of jealousy from [profile] nottygypsy. After the meeting I finished unloading with Erik and Rods help. Rod and I set up the EZ-up canopy (little did we know how handy it would be) and finished getting things ready for the day.  Hat/tips were  good on Saturday, the shows went well. The audiences by mid-afternoon were tired and hot (probably because of the humidity) so the jokes and quips didn't seem to be getting through, and thats a hard thing for a performer that needs it to determine how the show is going. The threat of rain loomed all day Saturday and finally came late in the day Saturday. There were rumored reports of tornadoes on the ground in Marshfield that turned out to be unfounded. I was warned not to go through Marshfield, but I did anyway. Why? Because I have a weather radio in the van and not once in the twenty minutes I had been listening did the National Weather Service mention tornadoes or anything other than severe thunderstorms. Only once on the road to Marshfield did I even worry about my own safety.  By the time I was on I-44 back to Springfield the rain had stopped. Went to dinner with the LMC at Cracker Barrel, all was good.

Sunday started wet, stayed wet and eventually got canceled. Getting into the site was a feat in four wheel drive adventures. The "road" to the site wasn't just muddy it was sloppy muddy, and with the rain still coming down it didn't look like it was going to get any easier. Rod and Erik had already raised the canopy, so we had some protection from the rain. We sat backstage and talked about other shows we'd done, things we'd seen, Rod even began to reminisce about "Camelnot" (some of you may get it) Erik did his first show and amazingly had a small audience of about 8 people (we're pretty sure it was crafters kids and a few people that came in early for the wedding). He finished and I tried to start my show (yeah four crafter kids) I did an abbreviated show with some stuff I don't normally do and finished about 15 minutes later. Sometime around noon Chris came around and told us that we were free to go if we wanted to. Erik, Rod and I stuck around until 1:30 just to make sure the sun didn't come out and turn the whole day around. Uh, Yeah. It was still raining when I left at almost 2.

As a faire in it's infancy it seems to be coming along just fine. It has it's issues, and most if not all seem to be easily fixed. My biggest complaint is seating at the stages. The new benches are nice and all, but there aren't enough of them. Several times during the day I watched as people walked away from shows because there wasn't a place for them to sit. The placement of the Puck's Bower stage is good, my suggestion is, if the stage isn't going to be moved (like the players stage was) why not install permanent seating (much like the seating at the Mermaid Stage and Three Lions in Kansas City). Posts in the ground about 3-4 feet apart about 18-24 inches tall with a 2x10 across the top. Simple, effective, and not labor intensive.

I agree with your comment about the seating. Much more is needed for all the stages, even if it is just haybales. Seating in general seems to be a problem throughout the faire. To me, there isn't enough places for the patrons to just sit and enjoy the atmosphere in general.

The lack of hired help, materials and time are the problems with seating.

You have Riley/Brother William to thank for all of the benches. Yes, all of them.

We're hoping to make a lot more changes as such before next year but overcoming all the obstacles that we did for this year was damned heroic, I think.

Sorry I missed it. Was strange not to be there.

I agree with the need for more seating and understand the obstacles hindering the increase in benches. If only we could breed them like rabbits we'd have dozens of mint green benches around...

The faire is definitely headed in the right direction!
