Sitting in the hotel room after a very chilled and windy day in Amana Colonies, IA we (
renniemom, child2, and myself) are relaxing a bit before heading out to dinner. To be honest I was pretty underwhelmed when we arrived on site this morning; the whole site would fit into a football field with room to spare. The patrons were slow to come out with the ominous looking sky and winds making them unsure of the weather. But come they did. My first show was held in the "Royal Pavilion", a steel building that also housed several vendors and the pub. The patrons were well versed in the hat pass, and seemed very generous with the tips. My first show was pretty rough with me messing up one trick and stumbling through another one. Did the Sword Swallowing to finish and it went over just as well as it did at Joplin last weekend. The second and third shows were outside on the "Minstrels Stage", a covered park shelter with a nice sized stage at one end. My biggest shows were on the outside stage, and the audience was standing room only. My energy was flowing well, and the audience seemed to enjoy everything I was doing. I had the opportunity to do the straitjacket escape on the outside shows, followed once again by swallowing the sword.
C (child2) and
renniemom wandered around for a while during my shows, but since we had seen the whole faire in the first hour they mostly stayed at my shows or stayed to watch other shows. Several vendors here we recognized from Joplin last weekend, and the good thing was they at least recognized us even if they didn't know us by name. We enjoyed several of the other acts. There was a lute player from Minnesota who was very good even though we were dealing with the wind all day.

Overall, so far I'm happy with the way today has gone. Looking forward to tomorrow and the five hour drive home.
