Just a few points so I don't forget:

There is very little humidity in the mountains. Got home last night, ugh! I was only outside ten minutes before I was dripping wet, and not in a good way either...

Went fly fishing for the first time. It was fun even though I didn't catch anything. Used my Aunts Gwen's rod, since it was the only one at the cabin set up for a righty, and my dad's waders. The water was close to 50 degrees and didn't get much deeper than thigh deep.

I hiked, a lot. First day I was at the cabin a deer jumped onto the trail about 30 yards from me, and we stared at each other for a while before he hopped off through the forest. Was about 95 during the day with a consistent hot breeze. I slept pretty good that night even though it got down to 50 degrees at night.

Saturday afternoon we had some light cloud cover so even though Denver had a record high of 102 that day it didn't much over 90 at the cabin. After the family reunion lunch,  several of us adults and children crossed the river to look for a deserted mine. My brother was in the lead part of the way and several groups of us split up. One of the girls, fell into a prickly pear cactus, so she and her dad spent over an hour on the mountain pulling cactus spines out of her hand and forearm. He said he stopped counting at 900. We did eventually find the "mine". We had walked right past it on the way up the mountain because the mouth of it was covered by a bush. It was actually an exploratory mine back in the 20's that had been blasted out and then abandoned after they didn't find anything. Once we found it, it was only about 15 feet deep and not real exciting, but the kids thought it was pretty neat. On the way back to the cabin I found a small animal skull which I gave to [livejournal.com profile] ren_rat.   Most of the family left for their homes since they were from the Denver area and those of us that were staying helped clean up and put stuff away before retiring to the deck to talk well into the night.

Sunday most of us were up early. We got coffee started.  While my dad and uncle made breakfast, those of us that could, helped set tables for breakfast. Afterwards we all pitched in to sweep floors and pack for the return trip down the mountain. We ended up leaving around 11:30. I look forward to going back soon.
